As AI data surges and companies like NVIDIA, Intel, SK Hynix, and Samsung prioritize glass substrates as a critical focus, YCCHEM Co., Ltd. (112290.KQ) has completed development of three essential materials and begun mass production testing.
On the 3rd, YCChem announced that it has finalized three core materials for semiconductor glass substrates—Photoresist, Stripper, and Developer—and has entered the mass production certification phase following customer R&D evaluations. The company expects to begin supplying these materials in the second half of this year, in line with customer production schedules.
YCChem also aims to commercialize a specialty glass coating product by year-end, a first-of-its-kind development. This advanced polymer coating protects semiconductor-etched glass substrates from cracks, leveraging expertise gained from developing display and solar panel substrates since 2014.
Glass semiconductor substrates offer several advantages over plastic, including higher chip density, reduced packaging thickness, and improved heat resistance. They also significantly increase data processing capacity—by up to eight times per unit area—while reducing power consumption, earning them the nickname "dream substrates."
Global players like NVIDIA, Intel, AMD, SK Hynix, and Samsung Electronics are actively adopting glass substrates. Intel, which entered the glass market last year, has invested $1 billion in Arizona to establish an R&D line for glass substrate-based packaging services by 2030. Apple is also reportedly exploring glass substrate applications.
MarketsandMarkets projects that the semiconductor glass substrate market will grow to $8.4 billion by 2028.
