On May 17, Marvell Technology Inc. announced that it has opened an office in the central city of Da Nang, the third of its kind in Vietnam along with two others in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
This latest move from Marvell aims to expand its operating network and develop a world-class integrated circuit (IC) design centre in Vietnam, after the establishment of such a centre in Ho Chi Minh City in May 2023. The tech giant is a leading provider of chip and semiconductor solutions serving data infrastructure.
Loi Nguyen, Executive Vice President of Marvell's Cloud Optics Business Group, said that Marvell is steadfast in attracting and developing the best technical talents with pioneering capabilities to support the operations of the Marvell IC Design Centre. The company has contributed to the growth of the Vietnamese semiconductor chip community.
Le Quang Dam, General Director of Marvell Vietnam, said that along with inaugurating an office in Da Nang, Marvell will prepare for the opening of an additional office in Ho Chi Minh City for the firm’s IC design activities. In the near future, Marvell Vietnam expects to become the third largest IC design centre of Marvell globally after the main centres in the U.S. and India.
Marvell offices in Vietnam will focus on new IC technology such as optical connectivity, storage, analog and mixed signal semiconductor technology. These are key technologies in accelerating the construction of new infrastructure to meet demands for increasing performance and speed of cloud data and artificial intelligence centers.
At the U.S.-Vietnam Innovation and Investment Summit in September 2023, Marvell Chairman and CEO Matt Murphy committed to expanding the contingent of engineers in Vietnam with a 50% growth goal in the next three years. However, after only eight months, Marvell has recorded a personnel expansion of over 30%.
Marvell Vietnam currently has 400 employees, most of whom are engineers. In 2024, the firm will provide an additional 30 scholarships for Vietnamese students and 60 internships in two years. In the 2024-2027 period and further to 2030, Marvell Vietnam's personnel is expected to increase about 15% per year.
Dam said that Marvell focuses on recruiting engineers in two main groups – newly graduated engineers in Vietnam and experienced engineers.
Marvell Technology, Inc. is an American company, headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, which develops and produces semiconductors and related technology. Founded in 1995, the company had more than 6,500 employees as of 2024, with over 10,000 patents worldwide, and an annual revenue of $5.5 billion for fiscal 2024.
