Thailand's Board of Investment (BoI) is optimistic about the growth of the country's printed circuit board (PCB) industry, with Mektec Manufacturing Corporation recently investing 920 million baht to expand its operations in Ayutthaya. This investment strengthens Thailand's position as one of the top five global PCB manufacturing hubs and Southeast Asia's largest.
PCBs are essential components in a wide range of electronic products, including electric vehicles (EVs), smart appliances, telecommunications, and medical equipment. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, BoI Secretary-General, highlighted Thailand's rise as an attractive destination for PCB manufacturing, noting that the sector has grown steadily with both new entrants and business expansions from existing investors over the past year.
Mektec Manufacturing Corporation (Thailand), a subsidiary of Japan's largest PCB maker, NOK Corporation, has received investment incentives from the BoI to increase production and support the surging demand. Since establishing its FPCB production line in Thailand in 1995, Mektec has invested over 5.8 billion baht, focusing on flexible PCBs (FPCBs) used in high-complexity, space-sensitive products such as smart contact lenses and EV batteries.
Somchai Asawarungsaengkul, managing director of Mektec Manufacturing Corporation (Thailand), noted that the 920-million-baht investment is intended to boost FPCB output, catering particularly to the expanding EV market. He also emphasized Mektec's commitment to becoming a smart factory, supporting the global electronics industry with advanced manufacturing aligned with trends in 5G, IoT, and AI-driven technology.
The company's facility at Bang Pa-in Industrial Estate currently employs 3,000 workers and utilizes 2.5 billion baht worth of locally sourced raw materials annually, reinforcing its contributions to Thailand's industrial ecosystem.
