On June 25, Tata Electronics announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Synopsys, a leading provider of silicon-to-systems design solutions. The collaboration aims to enhance process technology and foundry design platforms, accelerating customer products at India's first fab unit, as per the company's regulatory filing.
The foundry, a joint project between Tata and Taiwan's Power Chip, will be established in the Dholera region of Gujarat and will benefit from the partnership in various areas.
Leadership teams from both companies met at the Tata group headquarters in Mumbai to finalize the agreement.
In February, Tata Electronics announced plans to establish the country’s first fab in Dholera with a total investment of Rs 91,000 crore ($11 billion). Additionally, Rs 27,000 crore will be invested in a greenfield facility in Jagiroad, Assam, for semiconductor chip assembly and testing.
Tata and the Indian government expect the plant to produce 3 billion chips annually at full capacity, with chips ranging across 28nm (nanometer), 50nm, 55nm, and 90nm nodes. These chips will serve semiconductor needs for automotive, mobile devices, AI, and other key segments, catering to global customers.
Sassine Ghazi, President & CEO of Synopsys, expressed support, noting, “For nearly 30 years, Synopsys has been developing silicon-to-systems design solutions and investing in workforce development in India. We support Tata Electronics’ vision to enhance semiconductor manufacturing capacity in India and strengthen global supply chain resiliency.”
