Taesung (KOSDAQ: 323280), a specialist supplier of printed circuit board (PCB) process automation equipment based in Korea, announced its selection as an equipment supplier by China's largest EV battery manufacturer, CATL, for their new composite copper foil facilities.

A Taesung representative stated, "In our initial meeting, CATL requested more composite copper foil equipment than we anticipated. We're reviewing plans for factory expansion and funding."

They added, "CATL recommended a sputtering equipment supplier for producing composite copper foil, and we've met with them. We plan to produce test products using sputtering film material."

Taesung is finalizing an NDA with CATL, after which both companies will hold technical meetings and proceed with business activities

Composite copper foil, lighter and cheaper than traditional copper foil, is a game-changer in the secondary battery market. It uses only about one-third of the copper, leading to significant cost savings. Despite its potential, Chinese products have struggled with mass production due to shorter lengths and higher defect rates. Taesung's products can produce up to 1,380 meters of composite copper foil with a yield rate exceeding 98%.

Industry sources indicate that BYD, China's largest EV manufacturer, is also interested in Taesung's equipment.

The Taesung representative added, "With growing demand for composite copper foil equipment, we're reviewing sites for factory expansion and funding. We're fully committed to both our core PCB equipment business and this new venture."
