Recently, the Eindhoven City Council approved ASML's expansion plan at the Brainport Industries Campus with a 34 to 6 vote. ASML aims to expand on the north side of the campus, near its current headquarters, potentially doubling its workforce to over 40,000. The Dutch government and Eindhoven promise 2.5 billion euros for housing, infrastructure, and talent training to support this growth.
Despite council approval, ASML will decide by year-end if the necessary support systems are in place. CFO Roger Dassen emphasized the importance of proximity to their Veldhoven headquarters for fostering innovation. The new site can house up to 20,000 people, with most of the land owned by the municipality.
This news alleviates earlier concerns about ASML moving its headquarters out of the Netherlands. However, ASML is still evaluating domestic and international expansion options. Dissatisfaction with reduced tax benefits and immigration limits remains unresolved, though solutions are in progress according to Dassen.
Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Micky Adriaansens welcomed the expansion, highlighting its confidence in the Dutch business climate and government support for the chip industry.
