A SpaceX facility in Bastrop, Texas, is on track to become the largest printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing plant in the United States, according to President Gwynne Shotwell. Speaking to the Texas House of Representatives, Shotwell highlighted the facility's rapid production capabilities, stating, "Bastrop will be the largest printed circuit board manufacturing facility in the entire United States. I’m confident we’ll outperform Southeast Asia in efficiency."
This announcement is significant, as many U.S. companies typically outsource their electronics manufacturing to Asia. However, SpaceX has opted to maintain its Starlink production in-house, with operations also based in California and Washington.
Covering nearly 1 million square feet, the Bastrop facility recently celebrated the production of its 1 millionth Starlink dish. As SpaceX expands its satellite network, the plant is expected to grow further. Shotwell noted, "We hope to launch approximately 100 missions to deploy more Starlink satellites, connecting even more rural Texans and communities worldwide."
Currently, SpaceX has over 100,000 Starlink customers in Texas, with expectations for further growth. "There are still 800,000 potential connections waiting to be made," she added. Globally, SpaceX now serves more than 4 million users, marking a significant increase of 1 million new users in just four months, reflecting the rapid expansion of its satellite internet service.
