Sonora Becomes National Leader in Semiconductor Industry with New Competency Certification

Sonora has become a national leader in the semiconductor industry by being the first entity to receive the certification for the Semiconductor Competency Standard.

Governor Alfonso Durazo emphasized the strong collaboration between the government, industry, and educational institutions to boost employability and enhance the region's competitiveness.

The formalization of the Semiconductor Competency Management Committee, which is aligned with the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, marks a significant step toward consolidating efforts between these sectors. The initiative aims to have a substantial impact on economic development, workforce training, innovation, and sustainability.

"The establishment of this committee is a crucial contribution to building the profile the future economy will require, focused on semiconductors and the entire electromobility value chain," said Governor Durazo.

Joined by María Guillermina Alvarado, head of the National Council for Standardization and Certification of Labor Competencies (CONOCER), Governor Durazo explained that the official launch of the Semiconductor Competency Standard would provide specialized training for professionals at universities involved in the project. This initiative is expected to accelerate the growth of this critical industry in support of the Sonora Plan's energy transition goals.

Governor Durazo concluded that the formalization of the Semiconductor Competency Management Committee represents a key step forward for the local industry, providing greater visibility, government support, and promoting the certification of industry competencies.
