SEMCO's glass substrate trial production line gears up for Q4 kickoff

The SKC subsidiary Absolics is nearing the full operational stage of its glass substrate prototype production facility in Georgia, USA. The facility is currently engaged in small-scale production of glass substrates. To gain ground on its competitors, SEMCO is shifting its construction schedule of a trial production line for glass substrates forward by a quarter. This trial line will be situated at SEMCO's Sejong factory in Korea and is slated to be operational as early as the fourth quarter of this year.

SEMCO aims to finalize the procurement of all necessary equipment for this trial line by September of this year and has secured delivery schedules with major suppliers including Filoptics, Chemtronics, Jungwoo Entech, the German company LPKF, among others.

Earlier this year at CES 2024, SEMCO announced its intentions to foray into the semiconductor glass substrate market. It had mapped plans to set up a trial line this year, commence mass production of samples in the following year, and launch the mass production of glass substrates in 2026.
