SAM Engineering & Equipment (M) Berhad (SAMEE) has reached a key milestone in its expansion strategy with the opening of two new factories and the groundbreaking of a third in Ban Bueng, Chonburi. This highlights the company’s growing footprint in aerospace and semiconductor manufacturing.
Founded in Wang Noi, Ayutthaya, 20 years ago, SAMEE has evolved into a leading precision engineering manufacturer. It now operates four factories across two sites, with plans for a fifth factory by 2025. The Ban Bueng facility, covering 1 million square feet, represents a major investment in semiconductor and aerospace operations.
To date, SAMEE has invested over $90 million in Thailand, with an additional $40 million planned by 2026. During the inauguration on November 20th, SAMEE Chairman Tan Kai Hoe thanked key supporters, including the Board of Investment Thailand (BOI), Chonburi Provincial Government, and Ban Bueng District Government.
The Ban Bueng facility began producing front-end semiconductor equipment in January 2024, reinforcing SAMEE’s role in the semiconductor supply chain. The company provides large-format machining, metal fabrication, and clean room assembly for top-tier semiconductor equipment suppliers.
"With this facility, we can bring aerospace manufacturing to Thailand," Tan explained. The plant will play a pivotal role in the aerospace sector, with the first engine case delivery expected by 2026. SAMEE plans to supply engine cases for aircraft like the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 Max, becoming the first in Thailand to supply original equipment manufacturers such as GE Aviation and Pratt & Whitney Canada.
Peter Lim, CEO of SAM Engineering, highlighted three key technological advancements:
1. An automatic manufacturing system with a central computer-controlled loader for enhanced productivity.
2. Real-time monitoring of manufacturing parameters for quick adjustments.
3. An X-ray booth for quality checks, ensuring radiographic standards are met.
Lim stressed the importance of regional collaboration for growth, noting that a strong network is essential for the company’s success.
SAMEE’s engagement goes beyond manufacturing. The company has partnered with local educational institutions, offering scholarships and internships to students from Chonburi Technical College and Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya Technical College. "As we grow, our community partnerships will grow too," Tan said. With over 400 employees in Thailand, SAMEE plans to expand this number to 1,000 by 2026. Staff have been trained in Malaysia and Singapore, and the company continues its support for local causes, including backing a children's home in Chiang Mai.
Wirat Tatsaringkansakul, Deputy Secretary General of the Thailand Board of Investment, congratulated SAMEE on its achievements, noting the company’s significant contributions to Thailand’s innovation and quality standards since its expansion in 2021.
Looking to the future, Tan concluded, "We aim to reach USD 450 million in annual revenue within five years, with continued expansion at the Ban Bueng site."
This expansion comes as Thailand's aerospace industry continues to grow. In 2023, aerospace exports are expected to reach $1.7 billion, positioning Thailand as the 20th largest aerospace exporter globally. The country is home to 28 original equipment manufacturers, with a combined investment of $460 million.
