PCBAA and IPC Push for Tax Incentive on U.S.-Made PCBs, Announce New Member Addition

On December 16, 2024, the Printed Circuit Board Association of America (PCBAA) shared a significant update, revealing that its leadership, alongside IPC, had jointly submitted a letter to the leadership of the Ways and Means Committee and Ways and Means Democrats. The letter advocates for a 25% tax credit for purchasing American-made printed circuit boards (PCBs) and integrated circuit (IC) substrates. This proposal aims to stimulate demand for U.S.-made microelectronics and kickstart the process of rebuilding an essential part of America's industrial infrastructure.

Following up on this initiative, on January 18, 2025, PCBAA proudly announced via social media that it had partnered with IPC to lead a delegation of industry executives to Capitol Hill. The delegation was on a mission to further advocate for the proposed tax incentive for American-made PCBs.

As part of the ongoing push, PCBAA emphasized the urgent need to reduce reliance on foreign-made components. Notably, China currently controls 60% of global PCB production. Despite growing chip manufacturing in the U.S., a significant portion of these chips are exported back to Asia for packaging with PCBs made in China. The joint effort to secure a tax incentive aims to address this imbalance and strengthen the U.S. microelectronics supply chain by increasing domestic PCB production.

Additionally, on January 14, 2025, PCBAA celebrated the addition of a new member, RBP Chemical Technology, a Milwaukee-based company. This marks a continued expansion of PCBAA's ranks as the association furthers its mission to educate, advocate, and legislate for the growth and sustainability of America's PCB industry.
