Only six weeks before Christmas, Bute circuit board manufacturers, Flexible Technology Ltd (FlexiTech), has gone in to administration after over 30 years of trading on the island – leaving many without employment.
November 17,2022, Flexible Technology Ltd ceased trading following unsuccessful attempts to find a needed buyer for the Bute business.
For the past 30 years, the company has created, printed and manufactured circuit boards out of the Industrial Estate in Townhead. In 2020, the firm moved in to the public eye during the pandemic after printing 100,000 printed circuit boards to make medical ventilators in the fight against Covid.
From last week, 31 employees have been made redundant immediately, with four people staying on temporarily to support the wind down of the company. Some of those who have been made redundant have been with FlexiTech for over 20 years.
Alan Brown, partner and joint administrator from RSM UK Restructuring Advisory commented: “Those impacted are being supported by Job Centre Plus and PACE (Partnership Action for Continuing Employment) to find alternative employment and skills training. We will be working to realise the assets of the company for the benefit of its creditors. It is currently too early to determine how much will be realised, however we will keep creditors updated as the administration progresses.”
