NVIDIA Plans to Build New 'Secondary' Headquarters in Taiwan - IC Manufacturing

NVIDIA, the leading AI chipmaker, is reportedly planning to build a "secondary" headquarters in Taiwan to further solidify its presence in the region. The company's CEO, Jensen Huang, is said to be keen on fulfilling a promise made to local employees to establish a dedicated facility. This move reflects Taiwan's importance to NVIDIA's operations, both in terms of its supply chain and the substantial workforce the company has in the country.

The new headquarters, expected to serve as a major counterpart to NVIDIA's headquarters in the U.S., will be a large-scale development. According to reports from local media, NVIDIA is looking for a site to accommodate up to 3 hectares of land. While the company initially sought to establish this facility in Taipei, it has faced challenges in securing suitable land within the city. As a result, the company is also exploring options in neighboring cities such as New Taipei, Taoyuan, and Hsinchu, all of which are close to NVIDIA's existing operations in Taiwan.

NVIDIA has already rented a 10,000-square-foot building in Taipei's Nangang District as a temporary solution, but Huang's long-term vision is to create a dedicated, expansive space similar to the U.S. headquarters. This facility will likely be part of a broader plan to establish a major R&D center in Taiwan, employing up to 1,000 engineers, further solidifying the company's commitment to the region.

Taiwan's strategic importance to NVIDIA cannot be overstated. The company has significant partnerships with local suppliers and a large employee base in the country, making a dedicated facility a crucial step in maintaining its competitive edge in the global market.

Given the geopolitical tensions surrounding Taiwan, the move also signals NVIDIA's long-term commitment to the region despite potential risks. As the company looks to expand its footprint in Taiwan, it will be interesting to see how this new development unfolds and how it impacts NVIDIA's growth in the AI and semiconductor sectors.
