MKS Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ: MKSI), a global leader in enabling technologies, announced plans to build a Super Center factory in Penang, Malaysia to support global wafer fabrication equipment production. The project will be developed in three phases, with groundbreaking set for early 2025.
YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, noted that Penang’s advanced industrial ecosystem is well-equipped to support next-generation technologies and growth strategies. He expressed delight at MKS Instruments choosing Penang, emphasizing the high-value job opportunities and alignment with Penang’s ambition to advance in the global semiconductor value chain.
Mr. Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, CEO of MIDA, praised MKS Instruments' confidence in Malaysia's skilled workforce and business environment, noting that the new facility will enhance the nation’s manufacturing capabilities and align with the New Industrial Masterplan 2030 (NIMP2030).
Dr. John T.C. Lee, President and CEO of MKS, stated that expanding in Malaysia marks a significant milestone in enhancing MKS’s capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing applications.
