Major Fire Breaks Out at PCB Giant Zhen Ding's Subsidiary in Taiwan

On January 5, 2025, a major fire broke out at the copper plating workshop of Boardtek Electronics Corp's second factory, a subsidiary of Zhen Ding Technology Holding Limited (TPE: 4958), located in the Guanyin Industrial Park, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. The blaze sent thick black smoke into the sky, affecting the surrounding industrial area and residential neighborhoods. Firefighters worked tirelessly for hours to contain the fire, which spread from Building B to Building A. The fire was brought under control at 7:19 PM after more than seven hours of firefighting efforts.

The Taoyuan Fire Department deployed 125 firefighters, 79 volunteer firefighters, and 55 fire trucks to tackle the blaze. A total of 342 individuals were safely evacuated from the site, with no reported injuries or casualties. The fire site contained hazardous chemicals, including sulfuric acid and nitric acid, further complicating the firefighting operations. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Zhen Ding released a statement reassuring stakeholders that the company had comprehensive fire insurance coverage for Boardtek's facilities. They emphasized that contingency plans, including backup production at other factories within the group, had been immediately activated to minimize disruptions to client deliveries. Preliminary evaluations indicate no significant impact on the company's overall operations or financial standing, although the exact extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Zhen Ding has also been expanding Boardtek's operations. Recently, the company announced plans to establish a new facility in the Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) with a phased investment of NT$2 billion from 2025 to 2029. This facility will focus on developing and manufacturing high-density and multi-layer PCBs for advanced applications such as AI servers, reflecting the company's strategy to meet the increasing demand for cutting-edge PCB solutions.

Strengthening Safety Measures
In light of this incident, Zhen Ding pledged to enhance safety protocols across all facilities. The company's ability to swiftly manage the situation and maintain uninterrupted production demonstrates its robust risk management and operational resilience.
