Japanese chipmaker Rapidus and auto supplier Denso have announced plans to collaborate on developing standardized methods for designing advanced semiconductors, particularly for use in artificial intelligence (AI) and self-driving vehicles. The goal of the partnership is to enhance the competitiveness of Japan’s chip industry. This marks the first time Japanese companies are taking the lead in establishing design standards for advanced chips, according to a report by the Nikkei.
The collaboration is part of an eight-member group launched by SEMI, an international organization focused on advancing the global semiconductor supply chain. Other notable participants include Zuken, a Japanese design software developer, and Siemens, the German technology group. By working together, the companies aim to create common design methods that will speed up chip development and reduce production costs.
Rapidus and Denso plan to invite additional companies to join this initiative, with the ultimate goal of strengthening Japan’s position in the global semiconductor market.
