According to the latest statistics released by the Japan Electronics Packaging Circuits Association (JPCA), the production volume of printed circuit boards (PCBs) in Japan, including rigid PCBs, flexible PCBs, and module substrates, decreased by 16.7% in January 2024 from the same period last year to 670,000 square meters and has been declining for 24th consecutive months. The production value sharply dropped by 19.6% to JPY 39.422 billion, marking the 15th consecutive month of decline and reaching the largest decrease in nearly three and a half years(JPY 35.458 billion).

In terms of category, the production volume of printed circuit boards (PCBs) in Japan for January 2024 showed a decline in rigid PCBs, with output dropping by 20.3% to 5420,00 square meters, marking the 24th consecutive month of decline. The production value also sharply decreased  by 16.6% to JPY 24.436 billion, which has been declining for 17th consecutive months. On the other hand, flexible PCBs experienced a decline, with production volumet dropping by 1.8% to 880,00 square meters, marking the 8th consecutive month of decline. However, The production value showed growth for the first time in seven months, with production volume growing by 5.5% to JPY 2.184 billion. Meanwhile, module substrates showed growth, with production volume increasing by 13.7% to 40,000 square meters, marking the fourth consecutive month of growth. Despite this, The production value decreased sharply by 27.5% to JPY 12.802 billion, marking the tenth consecutive month of decline.

In addition, the production volume of Japan's PCBs in 2023 sharply decreased  by 17.9% to JPY 569.047 billion, marking the fourth consecutive month of decline and reaching the largest decrease in nearly 14 years. The production value hit a new low in three years(486.867 JPY 486.867 billion).
