Japan-headquartered Meiko Electronics (6787.T) broke ground on a printed circuit board (PCB) factory in Vietnam’s northern province of Hoa Binh in April, with plans to commence construction of a second factory within the same project by October 2025.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attends the groundbreaking ceremony of Meiko Electronics' PCB factory in Hoa Binh province, northern Vietnam, on April 13, 2024.
Meiko Electronics president and CEO Yuichiro Naya stated that the first factory is expected to begin production in October 2025. Key products from this factory will include electronic circuits for peripheral devices, computers, household electronics, audio-visual equipment, solar cells, microprocessor chips, and controllers.
The addition of the second factory will increase the total project investment from $200 million to $500 million, create 3,000 jobs, and contribute VND200 billion ($7.96 million) annually to the state budget starting in 2030.
According to a recent report by Meiko Electronics, the project's current investment stands at $100 million.
The project’s annual capacity is projected to include the design of 14,500 PCBs, equivalent to $15 million, and the manufacturing and assembly of PCBs and electronic items covering 80,000 square meters, equivalent to 135 tons. The project plans to employ 100 workers during construction and 650 during operation.
