According to the latest statistics released by the Japan Electronics Packaging Circuits Association (JPCA), the production volume of printed circuit boards (PCBs) in Japan, including rigid PCBs, flexible PCBs, and module substrates, decreased by 9.3% in February 2024 from the same period last year to 757,000 square meters, marking the 25th consecutive month of decline. The production value sharply dropped by 11.4% to JPY 44.303 billion, marking the 16th consecutive month of decline.
In terms of category, the production volume of rigid PCBs in Japan for January 2024 showed a decline, with output dropping by 13.9% to 594,000 square meters, marking the 24th consecutive month of decline. The production value also sharply decreased by 3.9% to JPY 28.553 billion, continuing the 18th consecutive month of decline.
On the other hand, flexible PCBs experienced growth, with the production volum increasing by 9.1% to 188,000 square meters, marking the first increase in nine months. The production value showed growth by 8.8% to JPY 2.62 billion, marking the 2nd consecutive month of growth.
Meanwhile, module substrates showed growth, with the production volume increasing by 23.0% to 45,000 square meters, marking the fifth consecutive month of growth. Despite this, the production value decreased sharply by 26.6% to JPY 13.130 billion, marking the 11th consecutive month of decline.
Overall, During the period of January to February 2024, Japan's PCB production volume decreased by 13.0% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1,427,000 square meters, with the production value decreasing by 15.4% to JPY 83.725 billion.
