On October 28, 2024, Intel announced an expansion of its Chengdu assembly and testing facilities in China, adding capabilities to support server chip assembly and testing alongside client products. Intel will also establish a customer solutions center at the Chengdu site, aimed at boosting local supply chain efficiency and enhancing responsiveness to Chinese customer demands.
This expansion marks a continuation of Intel's investment in Chengdu, with construction and capacity planning already underway. The new capacity will be directed toward server chip assembly and testing, addressing the demand in China for high-efficiency, customized packaging solutions. Additionally, Intel's forthcoming customer solutions center will serve as a one-stop platform supporting customers and ecosystem partners in accelerating digital transformation through tailored Intel solutions.
Intel Senior Vice President and Intel China Chairman Rui Wang remarked, "China’s steady progress in high-quality development and global openness drives our long-term commitment to the market. This expansion will allow Intel to better address local needs, optimize resources, and support China’s digital and green transformation."
The Chengdu site, established in 2003, is now one of Intel's largest global assembly and testing centers, with cumulative investments exceeding $4 billion and nearly 3 billion chips shipped worldwide. Intel's longstanding presence in Chengdu aligns with China’s Western Development Initiative and reinforces the company's global semiconductor footprint.
In the future, Intel’s Chengdu facility will maintain a focus on sustainable operations, emphasizing green practices and local supply chain efficiency.
