Intel's advanced AI hardware and software solutions are set to transform the 2024 Paris Olympics, delivering groundbreaking experiences for athletes, coaches, and spectators.  Leveraging Intel processors and AI capabilities, the company aims to showcase the transformative potential of technology during the Summer Games, which officially start on July 25.

Revolutionizing Live Streaming

Intel's powerful Xeon processors will drive 8K resolution live streaming, providing fans with high-definition, low-latency streams across the 32 sports.  Broadcast servers equipped with Intel’s AI Deep Learning Boost instruction set architecture will enhance live signals, enabling broadcasters to deliver 8K streams swiftly and with minimal delay.

Automated Highlights Packages

At the core of Intel’s AI offerings is the Geti platform, which facilitates the training of computer vision models. This platform has been instrumental in developing the OBS Automatic Highlights Generation tool, designed to create automated highlight packages. This technology will allow broadcasters to compile and share highlight reels from various sporting events, enhancing fan engagement on social media. Additionally, NBCUniversal's streaming platform, Peacock, will feature AI-powered highlights narrated by an AI voice clone of sportscaster Al Michaels.

Immersive On-Site Experiences

Intel’s combined hardware and software solutions will power interactive experiences throughout the Olympic sites.   Fans can participate in an AI-driven feature that simulates the experience of being an Olympic athlete.   This immersive activity uses AI and computer vision to let fans compete in athletic drills, analyze their performance, and identify the Olympic sport best suited to their skills.

Accessibility for Visually Impaired Spectators

Intel’s technology will also enhance accessibility for visually impaired fans.   By creating 3D models of Team USA’s headquarters, Intel has developed a smartphone app that provides navigation assistance. This technology was previously used to create a voice navigation tool for the International Paralympic Committee headquarters in Bonn, Germany.

Preserving Olympic History

Intel’s AI technologies will play a crucial role in preserving the legacy of the Olympic Games. Through its Emergent AI Lab, Intel will convert video footage of Olympic artifacts into 3D digital models. Fans will be able to interact with these models, manipulating them to explore Olympic history in a new, engaging way.

Enhanced Communication with Athlete365 Chatbot

Thousands of athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics will benefit from the Athlete365 chatbot, developed by Intel in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).   This chatbot, accessible via mobile phones, will provide quick responses to inquiries about navigating the Olympic Village and understanding the rules and guidelines.   The chatbot supports six major languages, catering to the diverse athlete population.

Intel’s Justin Hotard, General Manager of the Data Center and AI Group, emphasized the company's commitment to making AI accessible through partnerships with industry leaders like Red Hat and Seekr.   The Athlete365 chatbot demonstrates Intel’s proficiency in open generative AI and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, powered by Intel Gaudi accelerators and Xeon processors.

A Vision for the Future

Intel's partnership with the IOC, which began in 2017, continues to drive innovation in sports technology. Ilario Corna, the IOC’s Chief Information Technology Officer, highlighted the impact of Intel’s AI-powered solutions in reshaping the spectator and athlete experience.

“This summer, Intel will accelerate its mission of bringing ‘AI Everywhere’ using Intel solutions at Paris 2024, showcasing the powerful potential of technology and AI to create immersive and interactive experiences at the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 for millions around the world,” said Sarah Vickers, Intel’s Olympic and Paralympic Games Office Leader.

As the world gears up for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Intel’s cutting-edge AI solutions promise to deliver a truly unforgettable and inclusive experience, underscoring the company's vision of integrating AI into every aspect of the Games.
