Tata Electronics, a leading Indian electronics manufacturer, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL), a prominent global supplier of semiconductor equipment and services, to purchase equipment and services for its semiconductor manufacturing facilities under construction in Gujarat and Assam. As part of the agreement, Tata Electronics and TEL will collaborate to train Tata's workforce on TEL equipment and support ongoing R&D and improvement initiatives.
Tata Electronics is investing Rs 91,000 crore (approximately USD 11 billion) in the Dholera Fab and Rs 27,000 crore (approximately USD 3 billion) in the assembly and testing facility in Assam. These facilities will produce semiconductor chips for applications in automotive, mobile devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and other key sectors to serve global customers.
Randhir Thakur, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Electronics, said, "TEL's expertise in semiconductor equipment will help create a robust ecosystem to ensure the timely execution of our Fab and advanced packaging factories."
Additionally, TEL plans to explore opportunities to leverage India's engineering talent to establish a service base supporting its global product development efforts. Toshiki Kawai, President and CEO of TEL, added, "This strategic collaboration spans both front-end fabrication and back-end packaging technologies. By leveraging our combined strengths, we aim to accelerate development and drive innovation across multiple technology nodes."
This partnership represents a significant step toward strengthening India's semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
