GaN manufacturer Innoscience Sues Infineon for Patent Infringement - IC Manufacturing

Innoscience, a leading Chinese GaN (gallium nitride) manufacturer, announced late on January 16 that it, along with its wholly-owned subsidiary Innoscience (Suzhou) Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Innoscience Suzhou”), has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Infineon Technologies (China) Co., Ltd., Infineon Technologies (Wuxi) Co., Ltd., and Suzhou ChipsWork Electronics Technology Co., Ltd. in the Suzhou Intermediate People’s Court, Jiangsu Province, China.

The lawsuit, numbered 202311774650.7 and 202211387983.X, pertains to the infringement of two key patents held by Innoscience Suzhou. These patents involve a GaN power device and its manufacturing method, as well as a nitride-based semiconductor device and its fabrication method.

According to the legal documents, Infineon Technologies (Wuxi) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Infineon Technologies (China), and is the registered entity for the Chinese Infineon website, which promotes and sells various GaN semiconductor devices ("Infringing Products") to potential customers in China. Infineon Technologies (China) acts as the importer and general distributor of these products, while ChipsWork serves as the value-added distributor of both Infineon entities in China.

Through technical comparisons, Innoscience believes that the infringing products fall within the scope of the patents in question, with all three defendants having sold, imported, or promised to sell the infringing products without permission. This constitutes a violation of the patent rights, and Innoscience is seeking legal action to stop these infringing activities and to claim damages.

Innoscience is confident that the lawsuit will not negatively impact its business operations. The company will continue to seek legal advice and take appropriate actions when necessary to safeguard the interests of the company and its shareholders, minimizing any adverse effects. Further updates on the progress of the lawsuit will be provided at the appropriate time.
