Foxconn-backed automotive technology company SiliconAuto has established a new research and development (R&D) center in Bengaluru, India, aimed at advancing semiconductor product design and system-on-chip (SoC) development for the automotive sector. SiliconAuto is a joint venture between Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) and Netherlands-based Stellantis NV.
In a statement, SiliconAuto CEO Gene Liu expressed the company's commitment to driving innovation in the automotive industry. "This new center embodies our vision for a smarter and safer future in transportation," Liu said. He highlighted Bengaluru as the ideal location for the R&D center due to its rich talent pool and thriving technology ecosystem.
Foxconn India representative V Lee echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the new center will accelerate the company’s capabilities in developing cutting-edge automotive technologies, including electric vehicles (EVs), autonomous driving, and connected car systems. SiliconAuto aims to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the automotive industry, not only for Foxconn but also for its joint venture partner Stellantis.
Additionally, Foxconn is in the process of setting up an electric vehicle manufacturing plant and has plans to establish a battery manufacturing unit in India. This move underscores Foxconn’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in the rapidly growing EV market.
The Bengaluru R&D center will focus on developing next-generation semiconductor solutions for electric vehicles and advanced automotive technologies. "With this expansion, SiliconAuto reaffirms its commitment to India as a key market for talent and technological advancements," the company said in a statement. The center plans to recruit top engineers and designers to further strengthen its team and contribute to India’s booming automotive ecosystem.
