(PCB UNION)—Printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer, Unimicron (3037. TW) suffered a fire outbreak at around 3 pm yesterday, on the 4th floor of its Dacheng Plant.
Due to the presence of highly flammable materials, the fire at the Dacheng Plant rapidly spread out of control, prompting the Taoyuan City Fire Department to dispatch a large number of personnel and vehicles to contain the blaze. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported among the factory staff, and the fire was successfully brought under control within 76 minutes of ignition. By 5:10 pm, the fire was completely extinguished.
The cause of the fire and the extent of property damage are still under investigation by authorities.
Unimicron stated that it has transferred the production of its original rigid-flex PCBs to its Renyi plant located in Hsinchu, and has plans to shift its focus towards manufacturing high-density interconnect (HDI) boards. Currently, the plan is in its downsizing phase and is being executed with a reduced workforce of only about 100 employees, which is significantly lower than the factory's full capacity of 800 employees. Initial estimates indicate that the recent fire incident at the factory did not result in any significant damage.
