Chipmaker Intel to halt $25-billion Israel plant

Intel Corp (INTC.O) is reportedly pausing its plans for a $25-billion factory in Israel, according to Israeli financial news site Calcalist on June 10.

When asked, Intel neither confirmed nor denied the report, stating the need to adapt large projects to changing timelines.

"Israel remains a key global manufacturing and R&D site for us," Intel said in a statement. "Our decisions are based on business conditions, market dynamics, and responsible capital management."

In December, Israel's government agreed to a $3.2-billion grant for Intel to build the chip plant in southern Israel.

The planned factory was set to open in 2028 and operate until 2035, employing nearly 12,000 people in Israel.
