A leading PCB manufacturer for automotive electronics, BlueTop, has started developing a next-generation 800V power module for electric vehicles (EVs), with the potential to more than double the current driving range.

The company was recently selected for a government project by South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, to develop an integrated power module for EV inverters with asymmetric multi-layer PCBs.

The 800V power module under development is expected to play a crucial role in extending the driving range of EVs from the current 200-300 km to 600 km. The core technology embeds PCBs within semiconductor chips, significantly reducing inductance and noise by nearly 80%, which will greatly improve the efficiency of power modules and revolutionize EV performance.

BlueTop plans to complete the development by 2027 and launch the power module in Hyundai and Kia electric vehicles, with initial applications likely in models such as the Santa Fe and GV70.

This technology is not limited to the domestic market. BlueTop aims to expand its applications globally, including in industrial inverters and robotics. It also expects to strengthen the competitiveness of South Korea's power module industry, which currently relies on advanced foreign parts.

Once commercialized, this innovation could lead to self-sufficiency in materials and components such as high-heat-dissipation substrates and high-reliability bonding materials. The technology is also expected to be significant for South Korea’s strategic industries in automotive semiconductors and power electronics.

In addition to capturing a dominant share in the domestic market, BlueTop plans to expand overseas and strengthen global marketing efforts through trade shows and technology showcases.
