BH has become a circuit board supplier for Samsung and is expected to benefit by tens of billions of won

BH Co., Ltd.(090460.KOSPI)  will be supplying flexible printed circuit boards (FPCB) for the camera modules on Samsung's new foldable phones, joining NewFlex and SI Flex as the third supplier. Previously, BH focused on FPCB for displays, but the new contract expands their scope to include cameras in the automotive and robotics sectors.

While NewFlex and SI Flex remain the primary suppliers, BH anticipates earning tens of billions of won from the deal. For Samsung, having more suppliers means better pricing leverage for acquiring FPCB boards.

Earlier, Samsung sourced these boards from Daeduck Electronics and Interflex, both of which exited the business in 2022 due to low profitability, allowing NewFlex and SI Flex to become dominant suppliers.

NewFlex, now the largest supplier, saw its revenue jump from 171.7 billion won in 2021 to 260.3 billion won in 2022, with operating income rising from 1.5 billion won to 17.9 billion won after securing the Samsung contract.

SI Flex also supplies display FPCB to Samsung and Apple. Their revenue in 2022 was 689.3 billion won with an operating income of 45.3 billion won. In 2023, revenue was 646.2 billion won with an operating income of 34.1 billion won.

BH reported 1.59 trillion won in revenue last year, with 80% coming from FPCB sales, predominantly from OLED displays rather than camera modules.

As the foldable phone market continues to expand, this collaboration is poised to drive substantial financial gains for BH while fostering innovation and competition within the industry. Looking ahead, BH's expanded focus may pave the way for further advancements and market penetration, bolstering their position as a key player in the global FPCB industry.
